SpeakLine – Text to Speech App Reviews
It crashes
It dozent work at all all it doze is crash!!!!
Unopenable!
I cant even open the app! You guys have some serious work to do!
This is not a independent app, but a kind of an interface for the speech of the system. This app makes you enable to select voices, write and speech via just this app. The guys developing the app are very kind to help you.
Great App!
I have been waiting for an app so i can make my computer talk!!!
Really Cool!!!
This thing is so much fun! And its really cool that its for free! :D I def think anyone should get this! I got a few laughs out of this!
useless
You can do the same thing with your mac by just opening terminal and typing in say watever to make your mac speak to you. Its faster and eaiser.
Its free cant ask for more...
Haha loves it!!!!!
CanT Run It
Says it runs on 10.6 and Im on 10.6.8 and it tells me I cant run it on this version of the OS.
Quit Unexpectedly?
I wish I could tell you how this app worked and so on, but I didnt manage to get it open. At all.
I am using it to read my text book to me, so it would be nice if it had a pause button so that i can take the parts i like and highlight it… but it doesnt.. I guess if your just using it for giggles its good.
Awesome
This is perfect If I need to study for something and I just dont want to read it… Very good app for free
great
great for a person with larnjitus
how is the app?
this is a great app, i love it!
I can get it set up for a new text doc, but it doesn’t open, allow me to add my text, either by pasting or by typing. Tried going to the support web page, but even that doesn’t work. What is it doing in the App Store?
save
it reads what i type, but i can not save it...
Feature request
Id like to see an automatic voice mode while typing if possible.
Very good with two additions
It’s a very useful App. One requirement: there should be way to start speaking at other places in the text rather than at the start. Also, it should be possible to enter the file rather than past the text. Thank you
Can’t increase the reading speed
I got this because the built in text to speech on my MacBook doesn’t allow you to increase the speed, and this says you can adjust the speed. Unfortunately, you can only make the speed slower, not quicker, so this is useless to me and I uninstalling it. On the bright side, it doesn’t use an ai voice, which I like.
This is how I talk
I have lost about 90% of my ability to talk due to ALS. I have Speakline on my laptop and on my iPhone and it’s my primary means of communication. Thank you so much, Speakline! The App works great on both platforms. It’s the best I’ve tried - and the only one I use now.
It Works
The voice types need to be upgraded a touch & I’d like an option to use my own voice sample in the future.
Best ever
No ads, no limits, simple. It’s just great.
0 cons
No Cons, Great app. Makes reading my chapters for college so much easier.
Does exactly what it says for free
Very nice, exactly the program I was looking for
It's a good free app
No limited as others in TTS and the voice is good enough. Worth it!
Just what I needed
A nifty app for reading long documents, without any subscriptions
helps me with my writing
I love hearing my chapters read back to me. It helps with objectivity.
I really did not see that coming
Sounds a bit robotic but does a terrific job of reading the text pronouncing almost every word clearly and correctly. Great for someone who is reading challenged.
It works, but...
This free app definitely works; however, I couldn't figure out how to switch the voices, pitch and rate easily. Sometimes the switch worked and sometimes it didn't. Other apps have a free option that does the same thing but that I found to be much more user friendly.
superior to the system tool
Using the Mac OS system tool for converting text to speech, Speakline adds easy interface and reliable functionality. It is only limited by the weaknesses of Apple's system functionality: it will fail when converting longer docs for example. Once you've picked a good (enhanced or premium) voice in system settings, it's easy to hear any text in that voice, and to export it as a caf (core audio file) and listen to it on any mac device.
Great tool
Is this possible in Spanish?
doesnt work
Downloaded the app to help me get through my college classes and it wont read any of the text I write or paste totally useless.
Thanks
This help to pronounce word that I give me a problem speaking.
learning disabilities
This program is great for reading text. However, I have learning disabilities and I need a program that highlights the text as it is being read. Other than that it is a great program.
crash
The software exhibits instantaneous crashing behavior upon my clicking on the settings icon and inputting text in the corresponding field.
Best TTS I have used
I have used a ton of TTS readers but this one is the best one by far. You can change the speed, the voices and even the language, and its all free! I have used it for about a year now and it still works great.
New Version Different Look & Feel
I'm trying out the new vesion and the look and feel are a little different. The main functions seem to work as needed. The follow along with the text seems to be gone, but that's not critical.

BRO THANK YOU FOR THE UPDATE
I WAITED 4 YEARS TO EXPORT THE TTS AUDIO AND I CAN FINALLY DO IT, I'VE BEEN BLESSED BY THE SPEAKLINE GODS
Bombs. Only uses low quality voices.
It needs some work. (A) It can only access Apple’s low quality voices, aka novelty voices of olde. (B) Changing voices is difficult due to interface problems. (C) When you do find a way to change voices, clicking on the voices button BOMBS the app. Start again. I found it too clunky to bother. Try again please, dev.
Accurate but laborious
It provides accurate outputs, however I found both repositioning the (for lack of a better tern) "reading cursor" while keeping text and audio in sync to be impossible. My workaround was to edit the file in removing all text preceding the text of current interest, then uploading the reevised file. It's a quite tedious effort. Might this ultimately have been a user-error/lack of knowledge issue? I don't know.
Great use of voice text
I wish it would have a button for erasing the text instead of use hotbutton. "Clear All" button!
This is all native to mac
Just a stand alone aplet, for what already exists on the mac
Need improvment on voice
Need improvment on voice
Simple, fast, and does what it's supposed to do...
I really couldn't have asked for more and for free? Better snag this little app before they start charging. Everything is straightforward. It's blazing fast and just what the doctor ordered. Five stars!
Great App
It's free and it works. I copy and paste a chapter from my book and it reads it to me.
Riley II
It's great to here my story read by another voice! Very helpful and useful!
Good App
This is a good app but not sure how to use teh default voice on my mac, there is no selection to reset from the set voice list.
typing and learn
it is fun educational game for ages between 7 and 16 or 17 it is fun game over all.
Sounds like "Danger Will ROBINSON, danger, danger
If your selling to robots its perfect or making a SIFI movie
horrible!
wont pronounce properly!
It's okay in a jam
The read4me app back in the day was the best I find to be able to write an artilce and then have it read it back to me and edit as I go. While this app allow you to edit as it read to you it starts all over from the beginning which is a deal breaker for me I have to keep looking becuase this is fustrating to have to keep listen to it from the beginning
quick reaction
voice output very quick
simple to use and works well
i tried using other free tts on the internet but they all charged a fee after a while but this one doesnt< five stars
works great
stop bothering me with your nag popup window.
Mark a. D'Agostino
I would like to personally thank the developers of this wonderful app. I highly reccomend this app to anyone needing a text to speech application. Not a five star rating...but , TEN stars!
Excellent, simple interface!
Much easier to create audio files than using Word or Pages.
Great App
How do I create long pauses at the end of paragraphs?
Easy to use
As long as you can copy and paste then its easy. It's simple. What I need when I'm doing homework and other tasks.
Easy but ...
Cool app! I love that this app is pretty stright forward, super easy to use infact. But after I went to all the options and I still couldn't find voice that I can use.
Good research tool
The voice is robotic, and it can sometimes be hard to tell exactly what it said, on the first listen, but it's an immensly helpful tool; I can now copy-paste entire articles into it, and listen to them while I do other stuff.
Good for a quick use
I used this for drives Ed and it was a little hard just copy and pasting, but still much easier for a hard reader like me
10/10
my grades have never been better, i love the australian voice reading my assignments. chefs kiss mwa
Great App
It is great to use voice if you don't like your own voice. They have different types of voices in different languages.
More fun than a barrell of monkeys
Makes phone calls with tele-marketers and scam callers a blast.
